Perpustakaan Nirkabel Project at Lebong Tandai Bengkulu
Lebong Tandai used to be a prominent gold mine in the Dutch East Indies era. The gold mining era faded as palm plantations began to open in Bengkulu.
This location only has one mode of transportation in and out, which is by train. During its heyday, this transportation mode was used to transport gold and facilitate the monitoring of authorities to prevent the theft of raw gold.
Despite being far from the capital of the district, Lebong Tandai already enjoys permanent electricity. This electricity is sourced from a micro-hydro power plant.
The handover of the Perpustakaan Nirkabel unit to Lebong Tandai was done in collaboration with Sekolah Alam Mahira Bengkulu. They happened to be holding an event at the location in January 2018.
